Our Review Methodology
1. Performance Testing
We evaluate CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) against manufacturer claims. Coverage calculations use the standard 2× air changes per hour (ACH) formula: CADR ÷ 2 × 60 = sq ft coverage at 2× ACH. Manufacturers often use 5× ACH — we flag where specs are inflated.
2. Noise Level Verification
Noise claims are cross-referenced against independent lab measurements and verified Amazon review data. We specifically flag discrepancies between sleep mode dB claims and real-world user reports.
3. Filter & Maintenance Costs
Total cost of ownership includes replacement filter pricing and replacement intervals. We verify replacement filter ASINs on Amazon and calculate annual filter cost per model.
4. User Review Analysis
We analyze Amazon verified purchase reviews to identify consistent failure modes, real-world noise levels, and long-term durability patterns. Review counts and star ratings are current as of the publish date.
